AI Production Planning in SAP Cloud ERP

Transforming day-to-day production planning in SAP Cloud ERP

Discover how AI-powered production planning in SAP Cloud ERP helps manufacturing teams streamline daily operations and make more confident decisions.

In this demonstration, see how the Production Planning and Operations Agent simplifies complex manufacturing tasks by:

  • Evaluating production readiness: Automatically checking inventory levels, resource availability, workforce capacity, and production timelines.
  • Detecting potential disruptions: Flagging material shortages, scheduling conflicts, and capacity constraints before they impact production.
  • Recommending corrective actions: Providing actionable options to help supervisors address production challenges and keep operations moving.
  • Empowering human oversight: Giving production leaders the insights they need while maintaining control over critical decisions.
  • Automating routine activities: Leveraging AI and intelligent automation to minimize time-consuming manual checks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Enabling intelligent manufacturing: Demonstrating how embedded AI capabilities support the evolution toward more connected, proactive, and autonomous business processes.

By integrating AI directly into manufacturing workflows, SAP Cloud ERP enables production teams to spend less time gathering information and more time managing priorities, resolving issues, and optimizing operations.

Watch the demonstration to explore how intelligent ERP technology is transforming production planning, improving operational visibility, and helping manufacturers respond faster to changing business demands.

I've been as uh skeptical, if you will, about the value of agents and how agents actually come to life in an ERP solution. This is no longer something for the future.

We're really excited to bring you this next video. So, in this video, Zach is going to show you uh the production scheduling agent that's provided by SAP. What's really interesting about this is, you know, there wasn't a huge splash about this and and frankly, I've been as uh skeptical, if you will, about the value of agents and how agents actually come to life in an ERP solution. So, as we looked at what was in the latest release by SAP, we found that there were three or four agents that actually had value to the business. In this one, Zach's going to show you the production scheduling agent, the the value that it has within the business of streamlining things, automating really arduous tasks, boring tasks that a production scheduler would do. So, what's, you know, why am I excited about this? A, I get to see what an agent really looks like. B, I can see the value of the agent. And C, I can see that SAP is delivering, right? There's been a bunch of promises about going to give you this, going to give you that. This is concrete evidence that in every release, every micro release, they're introducing these agents and delivering on their promise of AI for the intelligent or autonomous enterprise. So, let's just watch as Zach takes us through this. Hello, this is Zach Good, a solution advisor at Navigator Business Solutions. Today, I'm here to tell you how excited I am. As you know, SAP has placed a heavy investment into artificial intelligence. Today, that investment is real and bringing value to our customers. SAP released a new agent called the production planning and operations agent to its SAP cloud ERP platform. If you're a company or an organization that contains manufacturing, this video is for you. I want you to picture this. Imagine your production supervisor walking into the door at 7 a.m. and realizing that there are 41 orders that need to get to the floor today. Before even releasing those orders, your production supervisor has to ask three questions. One, do we have the correct materials or parts to fulfill these orders? Two, is our utilization in a good spot in order to execute on these orders? And three, the dates that these orders are prescribed to. Can we fulfill those needs? In order to do that in SAP Cloud ERP, your production supervisor would have to go into its manufacturing section here and retrieve this data from four different applications. The manage production orders to see all those orders that need to be released. the manage work center capacity to make sure we have that correct utilization. Being able to see the inventory levels for all of our parts and components and materials to fulfill the orders. And if we don't have the correct inventory levels, we'd utilize the MRP functionality to communicate with procurement on when we will receive those parts as well as if we have to reschedule those orders. What this agent does is takes these four applications and performs the work for your production supervisor. So, let's take a look. As a production supervisor, I go into my manage production orders and I can see all the orders that have been created and need to be released. I can select specific orders and then I can click on my Juul icon where Juul will run the agent for me. So when I select release, you can see Juul takes my prompt, thinks about the information that I just explained before. What she's going to do is have the agent go into each production order, see the parts and materials and their inventory levels to make sure we can fulfill that, check the overall capacity for my work center, my machine, my labor to make sure we have the correct utilization to execute on these orders, as well as look at dates to make sure that we can fulfill the prescribed dates. So, this is a lot of work for the agent, but the agent's doing the work for me. So, I'm going to give Joule some time to execute on this and then we'll see what she prompts. You can see that Joule recognized for order 380 that there are some missing component issues. She's now given me additional prompts that as a production supervisor, I all I have to do is react to. I can manually enter an alternative part. I have the option to not release it. I can reschedule the order or I can release with missing parts. I had communication with my procurement team. They said that the missing part will be in tomorrow. So, I'm going to release this order with the missing part and continue this demonstration. Joule takes my prompt. She starts thinking about it and then will provide me with next steps. She provides me with a summary that this is the missing component. There were no alternative parts found and that I opted to release without missing parts. Again, artificial intelligence does all the work, but there is the human decision as a production supervisor that I need to make. So, I'm going to tell Juul to go ahead and release it. She'll take that execution, think about it, and continue to next steps. You can see that both production orders now have been released. If I were to go back into my manage production orders, let me clear out my filters and I search for that 742

and 380. Hit go. Both production orders have been released. So, you can see the power behind SAP's artificial intelligent investment. Not only did it save my production supervisor time not having to go through each individual order and click release, but it did the backend work. It checked on my utilization. It checked on my components. It checked on schedule dates and prompted me with the correct questions and steps to be efficient in my day-to-day operations. This is just one example of SAP's investment into artificial intelligence, bringing value to customers. Thanks for running us through that, Zach. Listen, you can see why we're excited. You actually got to see an agent at work. So, no longer do you have to say, "Well, hm, what is an agent? How do I launch it? What's the value of it?" Zach just demonstrated that rather than the production scheduleler going through four different applications, I could take a list of my production orders. I can select the ones that need action. I can click a button and the system will intelligently leveraging machine learning, robotic process automation and large language models to be able to actually execute on what the human would have executed on and took taken a while to execute on. So delivering that value on an on an everyday basis. And I think what's really nice about this is you are actually seeing it in action. SAP is delivering on their promises. this is no longer something for the future. They are being they're being very very conscious and very methodical to make sure that these agents that they're putting in front of in front of these key business functions are being done responsibly and under proper governance. So there it is team, you can see an actual agent. I know I was excited to see it when Zach showed it to me. So hopefully you share that same excitement and we're happy to talk to you about all of the agents that SAP is releasing and the impact that it can have on your business.
