SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition Pricing and Packages

How pricing works; Software Licensing and Implementation

How much does it cost? Well it all depends
Not the answer you came to this page to receive.  Bear with us, and we will get into the details, even provide examples, so you have somewhere to start.

Think of it this way: how would you figure out how much open-heart surgery would cost? It all depends on what specific problems you are trying to solve with the surgery and what complications there might be in your specific situation. The surgeon's office can provide you with a basic overview estimate based on past patients but will need specific information about your needs, conditions, and history before providing an estimate for your procedure.

Similar to ERP transformation projects. We need to get to know you before we can make an informed recommendation based on our expert analysis of your unique situation.

Just jump me to the pricing:  SAP S/4 Public Pricing Scenarios

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (SAP Cloud ERP) now offers a simplified and transparent licensing model designed to align with how modern businesses operate and grow. With a shift to a per-user, per-month pricing structure, SAP has moved away from the more complex Full Use Equivalent (FUE) model still found in the Private Edition environment. This change brings SAP’s licensing in line with industry standards and provides a clearer, more modular way for organizations to scale their ERP investment.

Pricing: It all depends…

  •  How many business entities will be running on the system?
  •  How many locations do you have?
  •  How many users will be accessing the system?
  •  What processes would you like supported by the system? Finance, Supply chain, Inventory, Manufacturing, Sales…
  •  Do you have any third-party integrations that need to be supported?
  •  Are there any unique processes to your business that need to be considered?

Why This Licensing Model Matters

SAP’s approach is centered around clarity, flexibility, and value. By organizing licenses around business functions and bundling capabilities into easy-to-understand tiers, customers can now license what they need: nothing more, nothing less.

Key Benefits:

  •  Per-user-per-month pricing, similar to Microsoft and Oracle
  •  Streamlined bill of materials with fewer SKUs
  •  Transparent entitlements and public-facing pricing
  •  Modular structure tied to core business functions (e.g., Finance, SCM)

User Types and Roles

SAP now defines licenses based on specific user roles and access levels, ensuring each user gets exactly what they need:

User Types:

  • Finance & SCM Base/Premium: Access to core and advanced business functions
  • Combo: Designed for power users needing access across functions
  • Operational: For users managing procurement, project work, or sales
  • Self-Service: Limited access for tasks like time entry or approvals
  • Developer: Tools for building and extending applications

Built-in Access Hierarchy:

  • Higher-tier licenses include access to all lower-tier capabilities
  • No need to purchase duplicate or redundant access rights

Licensing Requirements and Combinations

SAP has established minimums and combinations to maintain consistency and support business growth:

Minimum User Counts:

  • 25 users minimum for each Premium SKU (Finance, SCM)
  • Base SKUs must total at least 25 users combined, with one Finance Base user
  • Operational, Self-Service, and Developer roles are optional but subject to minimums

Licensing Guidelines:

  • Every license set must include a Finance user if Operational or SCM licenses are used
  • SCM Premium users don’t require Finance Premium-Finance Base is sufficient

Every project is unique to a client's needs, and we would like to work with you to discuss plan options and provide an estimate; we recommend connecting with the experts to walk you through what SAP looks like for you!
